In the aftermath of the recent hurricanes, the flood-damaged vehicles from dealer's lots are being stored in numbers up to 500,000 in Texas and up to 150,000 in Florida. That's a lot of vehicles. And, while at first glance this may appear to only affect potential buyers in those states, this is far from the case. Flood cars are often transported a significant distance outside of the original location, as is the custom in the used vehicle industry. Auctions buy up these vehicles and they can be sold in markets where the end customer would not expect to be concerned with an abundance of flood-damaged vehicles. (Source: Consumer Reports).
There are ways to mask the flood damage, so beware when buying a used car. Often, the damage is not evident immediately, and if not detected can also present health concerns. Buying a used car can often appear to be the best deal, but there are a host of additional precautions to take. The Car Maven not only helps with the resources you need, but we also know and refer you to the most trusted places from which to buy. We work as your advocate, always.
