It's been said that the way cars and trucks are being sold is changing and changing fast. But very few, if any , of us would expect that you could (quite literally) pick up your vehicle from a vending machine? It's true, and the company doing it for the past few years is named Carvana. This company, headquartered in Phoenix, has vending machines located in certain cities in the U.S. and in these limited locations there truly is a 'vending machine' which dispenses the chosen vehicle upon inserting an enlarged coin provided by the company. Unfortunately, they only sell used vehicles, and if you want to experience the true 'vending machine' aspect of the purchase process you will have to travel to one of the locations with a vending machine. Their vending machines are located in Atlanta, Nashville, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas (Frisco), Raleigh and Jacksonville. Otherwise, after you order your vehicle online, it will be shipped to you via a contracted vehicle carrier.
There is an exhaustive Q&A provided on their website, for any of you curious about how something this breakthrough might work. But, it should solidify for any used vehicle shopper that traditional means of buying are changing at lightening speed. Other start-ups have aimed for the same type of on-line used car service, but they have not succeeded. And, in the midst of Carvana's expansion, they reported a Q2, 2017 financial loss, in spite of the fact that their 2017 sales have surpassed 44,000 units. (SOURCE: Automotive News)
